8 Life Lessons We Learned From “Friends”

Friends is the most iconic and loved show in the television history. It wasn’t a global success because it was hilarious or the characters were so funny, but it is a show about people trying to find their way in life. This show will always have a special place in my heart. As the title suggests, it is all about the power of friendship, and how our friends help us get through life.

Over the years, friends made us laugh and cry. This television show and the six beloved characters have taught me a lifetime worth of lessons. Wishing you a very happy 21st anniversary!

1. Never hide a relationship from your friends

S1

Hiding a relationship from your friend is delusive because ultimately they come to know about this from god knows where. Monica and Chandler did the same thing. They thought that they don’t know that we know that they know we know. Never play these tricks with your friends because eventually they will come to know about everything and it will be all out in the open. In the end, Monica and Chandler had to accept their relationship.

2. Do what you love

S2

One thing I will say is that our 6 beloved characters of Friends know how to work hard and slog the way making their dreams come true. You need to remember that you’re not always going to end up with the best job. But anything worth doing is worth doing well. Monica being a short order cook became a Michelin chef. Joey went from being a butt double to a soap star. Rachel from waitress to a fashion executive. Chandler went from accounting to advertising. So always remember to do what you love. Never get carried away by the crowd because that will not make you stand out of the rest.

3. Friends are no less than a family

S3

Your friends are the family that you choose. So choose well. Surround yourself with positive people, choose people who you want around yourself forever. Always stay faithful with the squad. Never compromise quality over quantity. Work hard and help these relationships flourish all your life. The friends gang, the lucky six just proved it!

4. Love happens unexpectedly

S4

Love happens unexpectedly! You never know when or where or how you might find your love of life. Ross and Rachel turned a klutzy friendship into something, which is really special. Monica and Chandler found their love with their best friends. You might not know, but you can fall in love with the most unexpected person. You never know when love will be knocking the door, so don’t be afraid to open!

5. Work is just a part of your life

S5

The freakish friends taught us that work is just a part of our lives, it’s not our complete life. There is certainly more to life than working. The same situation happened with Rachel too when she was offered a great job in Paris. She had to leave her old life, her friends and of course Ross. She took the job but when she was about to take off, she just got off the plane. It was very difficult for her to leave all these things behind. She just couldn’t move into another country, because living is what matters more than earning.

6. Lobster mates for life

S6

This saying by Phoebe has been popularized so much that people actually started believing that they will soon find their human lobsters who will hold hands together for the rest of your life. No matter what, you’re going to find your soul mate someday, just like Ross and Rachel did.

7. Always listen to your friends

S7

What friends has taught me is that we should always listen to our friends, we must always consider their advice. For instance, if they do not like my boyfriend then there might be a good reason for it. Their opinions are still definitely worth taking into consideration. After all, they will always think the best for you.

8. Your friends can get you through anything

S8

And the most importantly, this show taught us that your friends can get you through absolutely anything, which life has to throw at you. No matter what the situation is, everyone has each other’s back. If anyone falls, there is always the other one who will take care of it. Whether it’s a divorce or a breakup or being fired, anything, your friends will always be there for you.

Chandler Muriel Bing! Happy Birthday! 29th August 1969, back then, hallelujah!

Well oh well, do not get confused since it’s not the “character’s” birthday, but it’s the person behind Chandler, Matthew Perry, who turns 46 today. Ah! You do suddenly feel so old, aye? It’s hard to think of a fictional character you can relate yourself with every time you follow a TV series and then there’s Friends and eventually, Chandler. Need I say more? A quick glance down the memory lane, let’s recapitulate some of his extremely funny one-liners from our very favorite show, Friends.

1. “I’m so excited, I may Vomit.”

SS1

2. “Sometimes I wish I was a lesbian. Did I just say that out loud?”

SS2

3. “I say more dumb things before 9 a.m. than most people say all day.”

SS3

4. “Mini-wave in celebration of me!”

SS4

5. “I’m full, and yet I know if I stop eating this, I’ll regret it.”

SS5

6. “Nice camouflage. For a minute, I almost didn’t see you.”

SS6

7. “I just realized I can sleep with my eyes open.”

SS8

8. “Well, it was either a pink bunny or no bunny at all.”

SS9

9. “Cheese. It’s milk that you chew.”

SS10

10. “I’m hopeless and awkward and desperate for love!”

SS11

And that’s how the birthday chap rolls. Cheerio!

Friends

Friends

‘Why should I?’, we replied, and we did not stop.
The apologue still continues,
Like the global currents,
Moving into the neighbourhoods of love.
Were the matter seriously discussed,
Everyone would know that we build, always,
Something monolithic and omniscient.
And that means the entire world, my dear.

I remember your straight hair,
It’s egotistic flutter.
Each morning with the bread,
You think of the nice trouser you could wear.
And all that footwear,
Posed on your lover with the unruly hair.
There was so much consternation, one winter,
On the snow-clad rooftops.
But over the wine, the smoke and the chatter,
There was some metaphysics at work,
Holding me to you, tying our loose ends.
And I was the witness of those smart collisions of hearts.

To the things we touch and the things we hold,
I pour and you pour,
Some of me and some of you.
To the disdain of others,
We shall map the world as our daydreams.

We could argue about the ordinary individual,
And pluck him from such neutral-sounding terms,
Make a life for him, push his play,
Till he lives ‘happily ever after’,
And do it all over again.
We will make sure that everything around us thrives,
For we are truly magicians.
